The Miracles of Medicinal Marijuana

Why Weed?

Cannabis has been recognized as a promising alternative amongst many individuals suffering from a wide range of ailments including, but not limited to chronic pain, mental illness, and sleep disorders.

Many individuals claim that the appeal of marijuana comes from the fact that it is a safer alternative to other medicinal substances. The possibility of overdose and is far less addictive than other pharmaceutical drugs, such as opioids. At the Green Lady, some of our customers have said that marijuana allows them to resume their daily lives without feeling completely out of it or disengaged.

 The Benefits of Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are organic compounds that contain the medicinal attributed to the cannabis plant. They attach to the receptors inside of the human body’s endocannabinoid system, allowing us to feel the effects of cannabis. The most commonly known cannabinoids are THC and CBD.

THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid and causes the consumer to feel “high” or “stoned”. THC has been said to help reduce pain, reduce vomiting and nausea, suppress muscle spasms, and stimulate appetite.

CBD is one of the most widely studied cannabinoids in marijuana. According to Harvard Health, patients have reported many benefits of CBD, from relieving insomnia, anxiety, spasticity, and pain, to treating potentially life-threatening conditions such as epilepsy.

A major difference between CBD and THC is that THC is a compound best known for its hallucinogenic effects, while CBD possesses little to none. Our customers have said that CBD helps counteract any potential anxiety or paranoia that THC can cause an individual to experience.

Things to Consider When Consuming Cannabis

Some customers who suffer from anxiety disorders have claimed that Indica strains are a much better option than Sativa strains. Indica strains tend to promote a sense of deep body and mind relaxation, while Sativa strains generally provide a more energetic experience for the consumer.

In general, some strains may provide a better high for you than others due to factors such as cannabinoid ratio, terpene profile, or the unique way in which your body processes such compounds. Some of our customers even keep a journal of different strains they have enjoyed to remember for future use. You must keep in mind that everyone’s body is different, especially when it comes to consuming marijuana.

The Entourage Effect

The Entourage Effect is a theory that all the compounds in cannabis work more effectively together, than they do when they are taken separately. With CBD working as an anti-inflammatory and THC working to reduce pain, they prove to be a successful combination.

I spoke with budtender, Tina Law, about our customer feedback in regard to THC and CBD. “These two cannabinoids work together synergistically, providing the most beneficial results.” Tina advises that topicals are a great product for people who are not regular cannabis consumers because they won’t get “high” from it. “You don’t need to smoke anything to help ease pain.”

Consumers who are already on medications must be careful mixing them with high CBD products. Ask your doctor before you try CBD. With CBD or THC, always start low and go slow.
