4 Ways You Can Celebrate Self Improvement Month

Self Improvement Month is a reminder for us to take care of ourselves, and ask ourselves how we can do better. There is nothing more important than your well-being, which includes both mental and physical health. How will you reflect this month?

  1. Take up a Hobby

Hobbies are a way to meet new people, get involved with your community, and spark some creativity. There is many volunteer opportunities on island, like Meals on Wheels. Their volunteers deliver food to senior citizens on island. Nisha, our local animal shelter, is always in need foster homes for their puppies and/or volunteers!

Yoga is also a great way to improve both your physical and mental health. There are many great yoga studios on island, like 1111 Yoga. If you’re looking for an at-home practice there are tons of online yoga teachers, our favorite is Yoga with Adriene. No better way to relieve stress and feel good then consuming a little cannabis before your practice.

If you’re feeling creative, The Artist Association of Nantucket offers classes for those looking to take on some new art skills! Nantucket Health Club is a great gym with good prices located right nearby The Green Lady! Check them out here.

2. Participate in Random Acts of Kindness

Create a positive environment for yourself and those around you with some random acts of kindness. Doing something nice for someone has a lasting effect on their day, and might create a chain reaction of kindness throughout the whole island! There are many ways to do this, but even something as simple as a compliment goes a long way. Next time your in the Green Lady, consider making a donation in one of our Roll It Up for Justice boxes, provided by The Last Prisoner Project whose main mission is to release cannabis prisoners, some who are serving life sentences for non-violent cannabis crimes.

4. Practice Gratitude

Scientists conducted a study in 2008 to measure the brain activity of people thinking and feeling gratitude. What they found was "that gratitude causes synchronized activation in multiple brain regions, and lights up parts of the brain’s reward pathways and the hypothalamus. In short, gratitude can boost neurotransmitter serotonin and activate the brain stem to produce dopamine." Dopamine is the brain's pleasure chemical. Meaning, the more we think positive, grateful thoughts, the healthier and happier we feel. Tell the people in your life that you’re grateful for them more often, and even write it down in a journal daily for the whole month to really see some positive results. We’re grateful for you!
