The Unofficial Cannabis Holiday: 4/20

It seems like everything has an official national holiday, like National Donut Day. Well, the cannabis plant has played a significant role in US history and culture compared to its donut counterpart.

The term ‘420’ quite literally refers to the act smoking cannabis, and the 420 holiday technically started in the 1970s but did not become a real part of cannabis culture until the legalization of the plant in California in 1996. The first annual 420 festival was held in 2008 by the University of Colorado in Boulder, attracting more than 10,000 people. Today, 420 is celebrated by cannabis users around the world.

This day is particularly important to us because it allows us to celebrate how far we have come with cannabis, a once taboo and secretive act is now celebrated and praised for providing relief to both medical patients and recreational users.

As a minority-owned cannabis business, we feel that it is important to recognize our privilege in being able to participate and thrive in the cannabis industry while others are still  in prison for cannabis offenses. We hope you have some time between this weeks’ festivities to check out The Last Prisoner Project, an organization that is committed to freeing every last prisoner of the unjust war on drugs, starting with the estimated 40,000 individuals imprisoned for cannabis.

Currently, they are running a campaign called 4/20 for Justice which is asking for the support of individuals to help bring justice to those who are suffering from cannabis criminalization. We hope that one day they will be able to rightfully join the celebration of 420 with us.

We hope that your 420 is full of laughter, great food to satisfy your munchies, and fun people to smoke with! Stop by the Green Lady to see what surprises we have in store to ensure that your 420 will be even more special.
